Very helpful. Thanks for all the thoughts. Several times I thought “That’s me!” I’ll listen to this again and take some notes that will help me find time to paint.
I set up my workspace, ok ok, it’s my dining room table:) I get my ideas from sitting in my recliner, where I keep a small sketchbook …ok got me again…it’s one of those 3x5 spiral index card notebook😊. From endless scrolling on youtube, a plethora of saved pictures in my phone and my own pictures I’ve taken on my beautiful island in Alaska, I then decide which medium would give me the best results with my limited knowledge. (Psst- I do mixed mediums if I can’t get what I want;)
My table is set up for three WIP, but usually just have one. Yes, I try and leave room for dinner with my hubby and a crib game with my besties:)
When I find the urge (and this is a problem), I can just sit down and go for it! My supplies are on 2 rolling carts.
Problem: I need to stop waiting for the urge… just sit and paint or draw. I know, seriously I know, that when I just sit and paint for just a few minutes I always stay longer.
Thanks for sharing your process, Dorothy! I also find it helps me to give myself permission to use other mediums. Would you be willing to add this comment to the Chat discussion? (just copy and paste) I think others would find it helpful and encouraging to hear how you make it work without necessarily having a whole room dedicated to art.
Yay! Thanks for adding it here in the comments. (It seems Chat is confusing everyone. But the comments section works well, since that's where everyone is winding up. I think this is a Substack issue. It's a new-ish company and they haven't quite figured out how to best arrange things IMO--of course, I'm not the one who has to write the code for the site. 😜) The most important thing is, we have a way to see more people's ideas than just mine--yay!

Sure! But I thought I was already in “chat”…
It’s me, not you! I am technically challenged!
I figured it out!
