Some situations are inherently difficult to paint with transparent watercolor alone. Bringing in a other media may help you create a successful painting with less struggle.
Kathy LeVeck's stream is amazing - her reflections of light and foliage really look like shining water, and the sunlight just glows through the greenery on.the foreground bank. Absolutely beautiful!
Well, I can't say it is a successful piece of art, but I certainly learned a lot. I was trying to be loose and just let er rip, but ended up with what would have been way too much sky. So before taking off the resist I added another layer of yellow and more resist. It helped, but is still too flat. Seems I have trouble negative painting!
*Everyone* has trouble with negative painting! It forces us to override or work around what our visual system evolved to do--see and identify "things". It's been a while since I discussed negative painting--I've just added it to the list of things to get to soon in an upcoming article. Thanks for the reminder!
Omg! I'm in the post! Well I can't stop fluttering my dragonfly wings and zipping around with delight 😁 🤪
Looking at the photo again, I think I could have made the center and some of the shadows darker, but I'm not sure that would solve it.. I made this a few months back and haven't been able to crack the problem, so really appreciate you looking at it.
Thank you for such an in depth video on the current topic! It made me pull out my gouache that has been lying around unused and give the techniques a try.. I think I need some time to get a hang of the consistency though.
I'm so glad you asked about this; it's a great question! This challenge shows up in a lot of watercolors, so it will be useful to many to hear about possible solutions. :)
I look forward to this next video, I learned a lot of new ideas from the last one with yellow trees. Thank you Lynn. Cant wait to try these new ideas out.
